The Memphis Zoo has exciting news to share—it's welcomed a rare newcomer to its animal family!

This month, the zoo celebrated the birth of its first Louisiana pine snake, the rarest snake in North America. According to a Facebook post from the zoo, the hatchling emerged from a remarkable clutch of 114 eggs, marking the largest number ever in a single breeding season for their program.

The zoo will take care of the newborn snake and its future siblings for the next year. Next spring, they will be released back into the wild to aid in the species' repopulation efforts.

For those eager to see these rare snakes in action, the Memphis Zoo has set up a live cam on its website, allowing fans to watch the new arrivals grow.
